Best Wedding Day Hair

It might just be the most important day of your life and everything has to be perfect. That includes your hair, and even simply choosing your dream style can be stressful, never mind actually doing it.Most of the gorgeous styles we see on social media can’t be done with our own hair, whether is is an issue of length or volume, and almost none of these influencers constructed these looks without extensions, clip-ins or toppers. So that means you can too, and we have all the inspiration and tips you need to create your own dream bridal hair.

To get the best results, start with the right sort of extensions you will need to achieve your chosen look. You should consult with your regular hair stylist and show them your inspiration to get their input on which extensions you should order, from length to color.: halo, topper, clip-ins, or bungee ponytail. Keep in mind that extensions are an investment. Real Remy can be styled using heat to create waterfalls, braids, and beach waves, whereas synthetic hair melts when using heating appliances Take the extensions to your salon stylist to trim them based on your style inspiration, and to add highlights. Pro bridal hair and makeup specialist Colleen Stone advises “Some brides will want to add highlights or get their hair colored before the wedding. I do recommend that if you have dark hair and are looking to do a textured braid look you might consider doing a few highlights to add some dimension to the hairstyle. Many updos look beautiful when the hair is not all one color. I would recommend doing the color at the latest, one week before the wedding. You never want to try something new the day before because that doesn’t leave time to fix anything you don’t like.”

Finding a bridal hair stylist who is experienced with using hair extensions is key. Having a hair and makeup trial ahead of time is essential to make sure you and the artist are on the same page. and so that you can try your inspiration look to see if it is really what you want before you commit. “During the trial I can offer suggestions based on the style and neckline of her dress as well as her hair texture and length. With that in mind we can come up with a style that suits her the best. One of my favorite places to find inspiration for wedding hairstyles is Pinterest. Instagram as well but to a lesser extent” says Colleen.

Using hair extensions can add romance and drama to your bridal look allowing the stylist to create up-do’s such as sophisticated chignons, long braids with texture and romance, or sexy, more earthy beach waves to create half-up / half-down looks which have a soft, fresh vibe. “One of the most requested hairstyles I’ve gotten in the past few years has been half up half down styles with soft beach waves. Many brides like the idea of having their hair down, which can look very romantic and beautiful but they also want to have their hair away from their face and have something to secure a veil. Half up half down hair styles can created with twists or braids, and even a loose chignon using the top section of the hair” says Colleen.

“For updos, loose buns have been very popular lately. Although some brides fall in love with soft, disheveled hairstyles from Pinterest they realize they prefer to have all their hair up without loose pieces left out. If you are looking for a chic and timeless look, I would suggest a chignon. You can never go wrong with this classic style which can be loose or sleek. I use extensions for updos to add length and volume to hair that isn’t long enough for the style requested, or that isn’t thick enough for the volume they want to achieve in the style” she adds.

Braids are one of the most requested boho bridal styles for its easy, feminine look. There are so many ways to incorporate braids, from loose and natural, to intricate fishtail, to several braids woven together and pinned up to create a crown effect. Braids are perfect for holding clips, flowers, ribbons, or beads for an endlessly romantic look. Highlights in the hair, both your own and your extensions, gives depth and dimension to braided looks, so be sure to follow Colleen’s advice about prepping ahead of time with your salon stylist.

Accessories can be used to anchor a veil, and a well-placed jeweled hair clip, flowers, or necklace woven through the hair can create a romantic crown effect or add a touch of bling. Colleen recommends “that brides bring their veil or any hair accessories they plan on wearing for the wedding to the trial. Although this is not always possible, it is a good idea to bring them as once your hair is styled you may change your mind about the placement or the amount of accessories you need. It’s also a good idea to wear a neckline similar to that of your wedding dress so you can get an idea of how the hair will fall. Some wedding dresses have such beautiful necklines, you may decide to wear your hair up or at least away from the face.”
