What is Balayage Hair Color

You’ve heard about it from your friends and hair stylist and seen it all over social media and you want it too! Everyone is buzzing about “balayage” hair that suggests you just spent two weeks on a beach in Mexico. Hair with sun-kissed highlights looks more natural than traditional highlights, and flatters literally everyone no matter your hair length, texture or color.

What is balayage and how is it done?

“Balayage” is French for “to sweep” which is the technique the hair colorist uses to apply color to hair strands. The colorist hand-paints the color onto hair in vertical stripes that don’t go up to the roots rather than wrapping sections of hair in foils. This creates natural highlights that blend easily into your own hair color, depending on the amount of color difference you choose. And that’s the best part: no color is off limits and the effect can be as subtle or bold as you wish.

“Want to hear a fun fact? I have not dyed my hair in over a year. That’s the longest I have ever gone since I started coloring my hair back when I was 11. My goal was to regain the health of my after YEARS of bleach and a BAD stint with some very hard water. My natural hair is almost this long now which is crazy to me. Pro tip for growing out damaged hair when you still want beautiful length + volume - use @hiddencrownhair halo extensions… it is 100% non-damaging + an absolute hair saver.”

What is “baby balayage”?

The perfect first step for coloring newbies, baby balayage gives dimension to darker hair using highlights that are just one or two shades darker or lighter than your own hair. It gives a lift to hair color and defines the cut or curls, and can be done with cooler or warmer shades depending on your skin tone and desired result.

Balayage vs traditional highlights:

Both highlighting techniques damage hair, but balayage does not require touch-ups as frequently, so that means less chemical processing. Balayage is low maintenance and lasts about twelve weeks, growing out in a more natural-looking way and without harsh or obvious highlighting lines. As with traditional highlights, use products with argan oil to protect and extend color life, and avoid those with sulphates and silicones.

Technicolor balayage:

Ready to really make a statement with your highlights? Add in colors like peach, white, or pastels, bold contrast shades, or silver. Go all out with superhero reds, punk greens or oranges. The only limitation is your own imagination. It is fantasy hair without total hair coloring commitment.

Balayage gives every hair color, style and texture a sunlit lift without a major coloring commitment. It gives depth and dimension that can look natural like your childhood summer hair, luxurious and polished, or unique and edgy. Start out with baby balayage and see what works for you. Take your Hidden Crown real Remy hair extensions to your stylist to color them so they blend in perfectly, as well. Talk about dream hair!
