How we care for our extensions truly affects how well they wear, how they can be styled, and how long they will last in great condition. Hidden Crown® extensions are made with 100% real Remy human hair and require the same high level of maintenance as our natural hair in order for the follicles to remain smooth and glossy. Since extensions don’t produce oils like our bio hair, they should be washed less frequently, typically once every three weeks depending on how often we wear them and how much product builds up on them. Cleaning and conditioning extensions extends their life and allows them to be styled properly. We asked lead stylists for their easy pro tips, and Rebecca Murphy shares her favorite products and technique in her video tutorial. PRO TIPS FOR WASHING AND CONDITIONING EXTENSIONS:
- Always use a sulfate free shampoo to preserve the color
- Wash in lukewarm water to effectively clean extensions but without drying them out with hot water
- Hold onto the weft while washing: avoid rubbing, tugging, or pulling - be gentle
- Work the shampoo into the extension being careful not to be abrasive which could damage the hair shaft and cause tangling
- Be sure to clean the weft well as it can be soiled by our natural scalp oils and product buildup from styling
- When rinsing start from the top of the weft moving down in the direction of the water flow so hair doesn’t tangle
- After washing apply a hair mask to deep condition and seal the follicle, leaving it on for five minutes before rinsing it out
- To dry, wrap extension lengthwise in a towel and simply squeeze, don’t twist, to remove excess water
- Use a wet comb or wet brush starting at the bottom of the extension and gently working up
- Hang on the Hidden Crown® hanger to air dry before heat styling
